October 30, 2004 -- Three big events are on the radar for the Pigman Gallery (Nov. 4, Nov. 11. and Dec. 2), so mark your calendars and make your plans accordingly...

Thursday, Nov. 4: Closing reception for "Rise Up! Unite! Rejoice!"

As the current political season draws to a close, the Pigman Gallery offers one last opportunity to view their latest exhibition "Rise Up! Unite! Rejoice!"

On opening night, one wall of the gallery was covered with empty 20" x 20" frames. Over the course of the evening, artists Dan Rollman and Michael Kennedy talked to gallery visitors about politics, hoping to uncover more than just "Bush Sucks." From those dialogues, Rollman created personalized handwritten t-shirts expressing the humor, frustration, and opinions that these individuals shared.

Characterizations ranged from "Conspiracy Theorist" to "I want California to secede". Kennedy then photographed each person wearing his or her t-shirt. A high-resolution digital print was produced, signed, and placed in a waiting frame. The finished result, "Red White and Fruit of the Loom", is a highly personal and revealing installation. The hope and fervor expressed in these powerful portraits are truly representative of our America. -Jill Manthei
